Adani, NTPC among five firms seeking coal gasification support
The Centre’s ₹37,500 crore scheme to promote coal and lignite gasification has received seven applications from five companies, including Adani Enterprises and state-run NTPC, following the closure of the first application window on September 7, said the Ministry of Coal on Tuesday. Adani Enterprises has submitted three applications to produce urea. Talcher Fertilisers has also sought support for a urea project.
NTPC targets 149 GW by 2032 with ₹16.86 lakh crore capex
State-run power major NTPC has outlined an ambitious growth roadmap, targeting 149 GW of installed power generation capacity by 2032 and 244 GW by 2037, backed by a planned cumulative capital expenditure of around ₹16.86 lakh crore across thermal, renewable, hydro, storage, mining and nuclear energy projects, Chairman and Managing Director Gurdeep Singh said on Thursday.

2 Min Read State-run power giant NTPC Ltd on Friday (July 24) reported an 11.9% year-on-year increase in standalone net profit to ₹5,342.4 crore for the first quarter of FY27, compared with ₹4,774 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. The company’s net profit was above the CNBC-TV18 poll estimate of ₹4,790 crore. The company’s EBITDA margin expanded to 28.8% in Q1 FY27 from 24.2% in Q1 FY26.
Power firms report strong Q1 earnings
India's power companies are expected to report a stronger first quarter of FY27 after electricity demand surged during the April-June period, aided by an intense summer and a delayed monsoon, according to a report by PL Capital. The brokerage expects companies under its power sector coverage (excluding Coal India) to post profit growth of around 7.4% from a year ago, supported by higher power consumption and steady performance from large utilities such as NTPC and Power Grid.
